What is an Accredited Financial Counselor?

afc-certifiedAFC® certification marks the highest standards of excellence in the field of financial counseling and education.  Accredited Financial Counselors have certified skills to assist individuals and families in the complex process of financial decision making, including the ability to:

    • Educate clients in sound financial principles.
    • Assist clients in the process of overcoming their financial indebtedness.
    • Help clients identify and modify ineffective money management behaviors.
    • Guide clients in developing successful strategies for achieving their financial goals.
    • Support clients as they work through their financial challenges and opportunities.
    • Help clients develop new perspective on the dynamics of money in relation to family, friends and individual self-esteem.

What is Financial Counseling or Coaching?

Financial counseling or coaching is a process that provides you with steps, both short-term and long-term, to achieve your goals and dreams. It looks at your current financial position, compares it to your goals, and then develops an action plan to achieve those goals.  The financial coaching process is dynamic, and it involves a holistic approach to achieving financial wellness.  It is an intensive behavioral approach to setting and attaining goals.  This is achieved by reshaping behaviors and attitudes about money.  Financial coaching is a process.  Having a clear plan will help you negotiate the inevitable financial barriers that arise in every stage of life.  Although all of the decisions are ultimately your responsibility, we are here to help you.

Is there an age range for persons seeking coaching?

Our primary focus is Youth and Millennials. However, we can conduct coaching sessions with persons of any age. Coaching sessions are conducted via phone, remotely, or in person.

Who is your typical client?

Our typical coaching client’s age range from 20-40. They earn enough money but have trouble making their financial ends meet. Our clients are motivated to make changes, they prefer a no-nonsense approach of coaching and expect the coach to hold them accountable to their goals.

Who is not a good fit for us?

If you already have a budget, an emergency fund, minimal debt, good credit, and are contributing to a retirement account you are ready to move on to the next level…tax planning, investments, and a higher level of planning. Do you provide investment advice?

An AFC® is not a Certified Financial Planner, Tax Consultant, an Attorney or Registered Investment Adviser.  If you need these services, please consult the appropriate professional.



 

Financial Education:

Why is Financial Education necessary?

Financial education provides a clear understanding of how money works and how it should be managed.  Decisions about finances affect our daily lives.  We are faced with questions: Should I go to a University or a Trade School; pay cash or charge an item; or spend today or save for tomorrow?  Skills in personal finance are necessary in order to manage real world situations.  Knowledge and confidence is required to ask the right questions in order to make an informed decision.  Financial education provides knowledge and increases confidence.  Everyone needs financial education.  It strengthens the economy by producing informed, educated, and responsible consumers.  Education raises awareness, and organizations that offer this service can maximize the impact that they have on their client’s ability to become financially self-sufficient.

Where are your classes held?

Organizations request educational classes for their clients or their employees.  Classes are held at the requester’s location.

Do you offer adult classes?

Yes, adults need education too!  Therefore,  adult classes are available upon request.

What if I want a one-on-one educational session?

This option is available to youth and young adults.  Information is presented in general terms and is designed for youth with little or no debt. If individual or specific solutions are required, one-on-one coaching fees will apply.
