Youth Financial Coaching at Youth Smart Edu

“Money is one form of power, but what is more powerful is financial education.” - Robert Kiyosaki

Youth Financial Coaching offers individualized sessions which teach the basic principles of personal finances. This allows teens & young adults to focus on their goals and take full responsibility for their future.

A lack of knowledge regarding how to save, create a spending plan, reduce debt, and build credit explains our financial decisions.. why student loan debt is so high and why 40% of Americans could not cover it...

Youth Smart is a financial education program for teens. Through one-on-one coaching, we teach youth and young adults about money management such as credit, budgeting, debt management, student loans, saving, and other life-skills lessons that will impact their finances more than boring assignments leading to do my homework for me requests.

Why Youth Smart?

Studies have shown that upon graduating from high school 84% of the students realized that they lack money management skills. That explains why 40% of Americans could not cover a $400 emergency. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we earn lower salaries (although many do), it means that we have a lack of knowledge, how many times your Google's queries was "I need help with my homework". This lack of knowledge regarding how to save, create a spending plan, reduce debt, and build credit are the reasons for the deficit and it explains our poor financial decisions. Our educational system teaches many valuable lessons. However, the system fails to teach perhaps the most valuable lesson, money skills. As of this writing, only 17 states require schools to offer a curriculum that includes personal finances. Ironically, more states have mandated a sex education curriculum.

Financial education provides knowledge and increases confidence. Everyone needs financial education. It strengthens the economy by producing informed, educated, and responsible consumers. Education raises awareness.

Youth Classes

“Participants loved how she connected with them and their teenagers.” - Willette Mosby-Reynolds, Habitat Forsyth

Organizations that are in need of youth financial literacy training may request a proposal for an on-site class. Offering classes to your clients (age 14 and up) couldn’t be easier. Just reserve a room at your workplace, and we’ll do the rest!

Classes are designed to provide an integrated course of study and are taught by national Personal Finance Expert, Roslyn Lash, AFC®.  Upon completion of the full series, participants are provided with the necessary tools to become financially self-sufficient, increase wealth, and have a better sense of financial wellness! The following classes are offered:

Curriculum:

  • Budgeting
  • Credit Matters
  • Credit Cards
  • Debt Management (including Student Loans)
  • Savings

Life Skills:

  • Buying a car
  • Housing
  • Consumers Awareness

Statistics show that young Americans can benefit from financial education:

People in the 18 to 24 age bracket spend nearly 30% of their monthly income just on debt repayment.

84% of undergraduates admitted the need for more financial management education.

Everyone should have the education and resources to make sound financial decisions. Knowledge and confidence are required to ask the right questions in order to make an informed decision. Unfortunately, personal finances and money management skills are not nourished in the educational system.  This forces young adults to haphazardly learn their money management skills through their financial mistakes. Our goal is to help youth make better financial choices and to increase their chances for a better financial future!

How to Increase Your Credit Score!

Learn how to raise your credit score for less than the price of a cup of coffee! Having a low credit score will affect your lifestyle. Buying a house, a car, or even buying a pair of shoes can be difficult if you have bad credit.

This instructional 17-page document entitled “How to Raise Your Credit Score” can help restore your credit. It was written by Financial Expert, Roslyn Lash, AFC®. Her advice has been featured in national publications such as USA Today, TIME, Huffington Post, NASDAQ, Los Angeles Times, and a host of other media outlets. She teaches you step-by-step what you need to do to raise your credit score!

Your credit affects your lifestyle… where you live, the car that you drive, and where you take vacations has a lot to do with your credit. Of course, it’s best to pay for everything in cash. But, let’s be realistic, how many people can afford to do that? If you are one of the millions of people that need credit, you need to know how to get a good score and how to keep it. The two most important ways to do this are by paying your bills on time, and learning how to strategically eliminate your debt.

Nearly half (46%) of adults could not cover a $400 emergency. It&rsquo's understandable that their credit would be affected by their lack of funds. Our goal is to help you reach your immediate goals. You can eliminate your debt, accumulate an emergency fund, and prepare for retirement!

Roslyn Lash, AFC, the founder of Youth Smart Financial Education Services, recognized the need for financial education. Financial education provides a clear understanding of how money works and how it should be managed. Decisions about finances affect our daily lives. We are faced with questions: Should I go to a University or a Trade School; pay cash or charge an item; or spend today or save for tomorrow? Money is important. After all, the primary reason for going to college is to secure a better-paying job. However, if your student loan payments don’t allow you to live a better life the degree may appear less valuable. Skills in personal finance are necessary in order to manage real-world decisions. Knowledge and confidence are required to ask the right questions in order to make an informed decision.
